    Title: From multilingual to multicultural
There are 7000 languages in the world, and AI supports just a handful. This is now discussed extensively. But how many cultures does AI span? Translators know the difference between a word for word translation, and a natural sounding localisation. By the same token (pun intended), the next frontier for AI systems is how to ensure they can represent and communicate in ways which are culturally grounded, or else we risk accelerating cultural homogeneity, in which we constantly consume American ideas, badly translated. In this talk, EM will explore the boundaries between language and culture throughout the AI lifecycle, and the challenges in driving plurality, rather than singularity, throughout data, training and evaluation."
