Julieta Arancio – ORCA
Open-source hardware and software are already helping researchers build, adapt, and share the tools of science. Yet institutions often lack practical ways to support these projects as they grow and reach new users. In this spotlight, I will introduce the Fostering Innovation Network (FIN), an initiative convened by ORCA with partners including CERN Open Science and Microsoft. FIN brings institutions together to test specific changes that could make open technologies easier to adopt, sustain, and translate into wider use. Drawing on pilots being developed with CERN and Carnegie Mellon University, I will discuss how institutional experiments can generate evidence about what works, for whom, and under what conditions, and produce approaches that other universities and research organizations can adapt.
