The Pan-African Citizen Science e-Laboratory Project

Participants will gain insights into how citizen science and digital collaboration can expand access to astronomy and STEM education in underserved communities.

Library Hal

The session aims to showcase practical models for engaging students and the public in authentic scientific research using remote telescopes, online platforms, and international collaborations. Expected outcomes include increased awareness of inclusive STEM engagement strategies, potential collaborations between organizations and educators, and the sharing of scalable approaches for astronomy outreach, citizen science participation, and capacity development in Africa.

The session will present the work of the Pan-African Citizen Science e-Laboratory (PACS e-Lab) in expanding access to astronomy and STEM education across Africa through citizen science and digital collaboration. Participants will learn how low-cost and online approaches can empower students, educators, and amateur astronomers to contribute to real scientific research, including asteroid searches, exoplanet observations, and astronomy outreach activities. The session will also highlight lessons learned in building one of Africa’s growing astronomy citizen science networks and explore opportunities for collaboration and inclusive science engagement.
